Certain types of bacteria can cause pelvic inflammatory disease. There are some bacteria that cause pelvic inflammatory disease and they also cause the sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) gonorrhea and chlamydia. The mechanism of infection is such that first the bacteria get an entry into the vagina and then it causes the infection there. With the passage of time, this infection increases and it leads to the pelvic organs of the body.

This disease can prove so dangerous. It can be life threatening if the infection spread day by day.it may spread to your blood then it proves life threatening. If you observe any symptom of pelvic inflammatory disease in your body then visit your doctor as soon as possible.

Risk factors for pelvic inflammatory disease:

The presence of the gonorrhea and chlamydia increases the risks for pelvic inflammatory disease. But even if you never had any sexually transmitted infection, you have this infection. Other factors causing pelvic inflammatory disease are followings :

  • Intercourse under the age of 25
  • Intercourse with more than one person
  • Intercourse without a condom
  • Use of a intrauterine device (IUD) to prevent a pregnancy
  • Douching
  • A previous history of PID.

Symptoms of the pelvic inflammatory disease:

In some cases no symptom of the PID is shown, but in the cases where the women show symptoms are the following symptoms:

  • Lower abdominal pain (common symptom)
  • Upper abdominal pain
  • Pain during sex
  • Fever
  • Pain during urination
  • Irregular bleeding
  • Dizziness
  • Muscle fatigue
  • Foul smelling discharge
  • Tiredness

Mostly there are moderate symptoms shown in the PID but in some cases the women show the most severe type of pain and following symptoms:

  • Severe pain in the abdomen
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Irritation
  • High fever

How to prevent pelvic inflammatory disease?

Prevention is better than cure “
So it is very necessary for us to prevent a disease by adapting some very simple preventive measures.By following ways the risk for the PID in decreased:

  • Always Have safe sex
  • Test yourself for STI’s
  • Avoid douching
  • Wipe your vagina and anus after using bathroom to prevent the growth of bacteria and other germs.

Complication of PID:

It can leads to various complications. Here are some following complications :
Infertility (inability to conceive a baby)
Pregnancy outside a womb
Chronic pelvic pain
Pain in the lower regions of the abdomen and it is caused by the scarring of the fallopian tubes and some other female organs.
