Causes, Symptoms and Treatment for Pelvic Inflammatory Disorder

Pelvic Inflammatory Disorder or Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is commonly known as PID in the circles of gynecologists. PID is one of the most abundant Sexually Transmitted Disease with increasing cases that range millions throughout the world.  Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, if not controlled in time, can lead to major catastrophe and cause non repairable damage to female reproductive system. Let’s take a look at causes of the disease and how it spreads.

Causes:

Vagina is made up of many important parts out of which one is called Cervix, the basic function of this part can be understood as denying the entrance of any unwanted and harmful bacteria or viruses to damage the vital female reproductive parts. If exposed to any Sexually Transmitted Disease, Cervix is infected leading to open access for bacteria and virus to internal reproductive organs. Apart from the STDs, PID can also be the result of Child abortion and side effect of contraceptive pills.

Symptoms:

Now let’s take a look at the symptoms that may be evident at initial stages of this disease.

·         Tenderness and pain in stomach and lower abdominal part of body
·         Increased vaginal discharge
·         Pain during urination
·         Pain during sexual intercourse
·         High Fevers and chills
·         Nausea and vomiting

These symptoms can be the initial bell to a bigger catastrophe. If you feel any of these symptoms present you should immediately refer to your gynecologist, and ask for their advice to cure it as soon as possible.

If the initial symptoms seem to lead to make a conclusion about the presence of PID, your gynecologist would make a diagnostic test to confirm the presence of any problem. If the diagnostic tests lead a positive result about the presence of PID doctor would advise you to put an absolute halt at any of your sexual activities and get yourself treated first.

Treatment for Pelvic Inflammatory Disorder

If caught and diagnosed at initial stages, PID can easily be treated with antibiotics and other medication. However if the disease is a bit severe you might have to be admitted to hospital to be treated with oral antibiotics. Later one your sexual partner would also be tested for the same problem as PID is sexually transmitted disease.

If unfortunately the disease reached a certain limit without being disposed, the patient might have to go through a surgical operation in order to retain themselves for PID. The need of surgery is seen only when the infection has spread through all over the vital organs and damaged the tissues to the point of no repair. In this case doctors have to go through a surgery to remove abscess that is the part of female body that makes up the uterus and ovaries. The absences of abscess may lead to constant disability of reproduction in females for the rest of their lives. The operation is performed under anesthesia like any other surgical operation.  Surgery should  be the last option, for which patients should keep getting themselves examined for any problem that may be caused in this regard.
